OPTION  1

A one-time evaluation and plan for both short and long-term overall management. I will visit your ranch, and research the following:

Evaluation of the Topography: Important as to the type and breed of cattle or sheep that would produce the most profit. It also affects such things as calving or lambing dates, the feasibility of feeding and finishing livestock, and the type of crops that can be efficiently produced.

Historic Usage of the Ranch:  It is helpful to ascertain the past operation, and successfulness thereof. It's always a good idea to pay attention to what is going on at the neighbors. Some of them are very progressive producers, and the long-standing operators know the area best.

Pasture and Range Conditions:  To include the overall condition and present productivity, weed infestation, water availability, etc.

Hay Meadows: The type and quality of forage produced, irrigations systems, drainage, soil condition, fertilizer requirements and historic usage.

Machinery: The condition of any machinery already in place, as well as the need for more or different equipment.

After extensive research, I will make a written summary of what I have observed. I will make detailed recommendations concerning the short and long-term plans, as well as the areas in need of improvement.  Following are some of the specifics I usually cover in a management plan.

Livestock:  I can recommend the type, breed and volume that would be best-suited to stock the ranch. I can offer insight as to fair market prices, sources and quality.

Machinery:  I will address the need for equipment, from the bare essentials to work-saving equipment that pays, and also the luxury items that make life easier. I will discuss advantages of both new and used equipment, in specific detail.

Land Usage:  I will make recommendations on range improvements, such as rotation systems, weed and pest control, stock water systems, etc. I will advise as to any  necessary field renovation, reseeding, fertilizing, reclamation of saline areas, and other farming issues. Upgrading irrigation systems, or even changing irrigation methods that may be advisable. I will outline the economics of producing feed versus buying feed, to help improve the bottom line.

Seasonal Directives:  I will set forth a timetable for your operation, to include seeding, irrigation, breeding, calving, pasture rotation, haying and harvesting, weaning, shipping, feeding, and maintenance.

Capital Improvements: I can point out the best uses of  your improvement dollars for buildings, fences, corrals, roads, etc., that would be wise investments.

Employment: Having been on both sides of the fence, I can greatly assist you in this area. I can determine how much labor is required to keep the ranch operating efficiently. I will discuss the proper compensation benefits, and incentives to attract and retain the best employees.
